    THE LOFT STYLE OR THE INDUSTRIAL STYLE IN THE INTERIOR

    The history of the origin

    There are many styles in the design of the interior. One of the most popular for decades is the loft style. In English the “Loft” means the attic and this definition is not accidental. The direction appeared in the 40-ies of the XXth century in New York. In those days, the price of land in the central part of the city has increased significantly forcing the owners of the industrial structures to abandon their buildings and to move to the suburbs.

    Factories weren’t left deserted for a long time, they appealed to bohemians – the actors, sculptors and artists. The price was much lower than the one of usual apartments and there was plenty of space for the creativity. Fashion artists did not only live in these rooms but opened there their studios and galleries. The loft style for ten years has made the way from the workshop to the trendy areas, and by the 50-ies had been at the top of popularity, having received the elite status.

    The loft style in the interior: the main characteristics

    Like any style of design loft also has its own special features, which have remained unchanged for many years. Of course, do not have in mind the factory buildings, the style has become a separate direction in the design, but some of the details inherent in industrial quarters, are still remained:

    laconic forms;
    openness of the space;
    high ceilings;
    big windows;
    concrete floor;
    pipes, ducts, and ladders.

    Unlike its predecessors, the floor in a modern loft-style it is painted and polished concrete. Due to special alkyd paints it is resistant to the abrasion, loadings, and dust. It is possible to distinguish the following features of the loft style:

    1.The prevalence of cold colors: blue, silver, and metallic. The often use of natural, with a complete lack of coverage, walls of brick, concrete, wood, and metal.
    2.Furniture also has a distinctive feature- the functionality and simplicity of the construction. These can be sofas with curved headboards, chairs on wheels, folding chairs, and metal shelving.
    3.Another important feature of the loft style is posters, road signs, avant-garde paintings and sculptures located directly on the floor near the walls.

    The design features

    The loft style has a variety of features to emphasize its individuality:

    The lack of partitions. Different types of zoning - plants, furniture, and color contrast allow dividing of the living space into functional zones.

    The industrial features. An integral part of the interior it is plaster, brickwork, and pipes.

    The combination of old and new. The successful combination of chrome-plated surfaces, new equipment, steel plates with a rough lining of the walls.

    Any furniture can be installed but the well-chosen combination of antiques with something modern is better for perception.

    The high ceilings. The loft style “loves” space and light, so the more space, the better.

    The genuine accessories. It is appropriate to choose graffiti, abstraction, and posters.

    Office in the loft style

    This style is versatile it may look harmoniously in the design of a large mansion, the spacious apartments and the ultra-modern office. Many well-known companies choosing the office design give preference to this style, making small notes of modernity. For example, combining contrasts - brickwork, flooring and light-colored iron beams, you can get the original design. In the internal zoning the white shelves with glass partitions look harmoniously.

    For the design of the company office where the creativity and automation are combined, you can add bright accents in the form of the posters, paintings, and graffiti. This will give a positive boost for the creative realization. If the company opens its doors to visitors it is better to pick a neutral design that is ideal for the staff and guests. The light loft will be there to help with it. Vaulted ceilings, brick walls, and numerous areas for negotiations, leisure and parties will not leave anyone indifferent.

    The design of the apartment in the loft style

    To the design of the apartment the popular and common loft style may bring a fresh and original touch. It is preferred by creative, independent in their judgments people. The lack of partitions and the freedom in the space give the opportunity for a wide flight of fantasy. This style will make living room, kitchen, and a bathroom look attractive.

    The living room

    Choosing the place for the realization of the design in the loft style, try the living room. It’ll be the perfect choice. It is one of the main rooms as the whole family spends a lot of time and meets the guests there. The distinctive feature of the living room in the loft style is the large windows, wooden floors, high ceilings, and pretty rough walls.

    The main element in the middle of the room is a modern couch made of leather or thick textiles. It serves as the center around which all the other elements are built. For the furniture, you can choose chairs, ottomans, and nice coffee table.

    Cabinets, wardrobes and bookcases are strictly prohibited; they create clutter which cannot exist in the loft style. For the books you can use the niches in the wall or transparent glass shelves. The complementing of the interior may be contemporary paintings, photographs. Importantly, do not clutter the room too much.

    The kitchen

    There is not much space for the kitchen in the loft style; the place for the cooking is distinguished only. The furniture is simple, compact, and functional; it is located in one of the corners in the large room. The bar may serve as the separator. A must in the kitchen area is the presence of chromium, utensils of the simple form, glass, and high-tech equipment. Special attention is paid to the lighting; it should be enough to get a good coverage of the entire working surface.

    The bedroom

    The most intimate place in the house is a bedroom. It is separated with a screen, blinds, or frosted glass. One wall in the bedroom is best to be left concrete or brick without covering, and the rest should be painted in monochrome colors. When choosing a bed it is better to give preference to the furniture of modern design in a minimalist style. It is good if the head of the bed is classic, but it is much more comfortable if it contains niches for the books and various items. This prevents the use of cabinets, but if their presence is necessary, it is better to install a built-in wardrobe with mirrors.

    The loft style in the bathroom interior

    The apogee of the loft style in the apartment is a bathroom. That it should include all the elements: chrome, concrete, glass, and steel. If the bathroom is adjacent to the bedroom, glass partitions are the best solution to create a visualization of the common space.

    The monochromic colors dominate in the painting of the walls and the floors, white and black are often combined. If the owner has chosen the shower cabin then it’ll be better if its walls are concrete with the mosaic. And if the bathroom is preferable you’d better make it of stone. The sink may be both trendy and retro.

    Light glass shelves will bring the ease to the space. The source of the light can be placed under the bath, around the mirrors or fit into the walls thus adding the originality and queerness.

    The hall

    That’s the hall what makes the first impression that’s why its design is very important. Often, the loft style suggests making the décor of this room in light monochrome colors. To expand the space you can use the closet, equipped with glass doors.

    The monochromatic palette can be diluted with a brick wall and a large mirror with simple or massive frame. Loft involves a large amount of light, so it is better if one main light and a few scattered lights are installed in the hall.
